In the waning days of September as the first of the sunrise hued autumn leaves began to fall, we joined Diana and James on top of one of the famous Highland Balds of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina to document their celebration of their engagement photoshoot. The newly engaged couple hail from New York City. Out of town photography subjects always seem to renew or love of the mountains and surrounding views with their breathless appreciation of the waves upon waves of rolling hills and mountains as far as the eye can see.

After a peaceful and conversation filled hike to the top of the historic bald mountaintop, we sat back and documented their vibrant love as the two frollicked along the grassy mountain ridge. With the sun casting its last rays from the west, a dark stormfront was rolling in from the east and the frontlit mustard yellows, tangy oranges, and rusty reds cast a stark contrast against the cobalt black skies behind. The loving duo seemed to blend themselves into these colors as if they werer born to them like some oft forgotten heirloom.

As we made our way back down the trail, a heavy fog–the vanguard of the coming storm rolled over our little mountain. We captured one last glimpse of the couple sharing their hearts with one another amongst the trees. The October leaves seemed to celebrate with them as they fell like so many embers of the fires of yesteryear.
